Are you more likely to believe in ghosts and other paranormal entities because you lack self control? This paper from a group in USA suggests that interest in the paranormal is extremely common, but that those individuals who favour instant gratification over considering long-term consequences are predisposed to believe in the paranormal to a greater extent, when compared to those who have a higher level of self-control. This was consistent even when accounting for variables such as race, gender, age, religion, and academic demographics!
