Deciduous Trees

Deciduous Trees

The UK is experiencing incredibly mild temperatures considering we are a week into November. Despite this, the trees have shed their leaves and everything has taken on a wintery feel. Ever wonder what triggers deciduous trees to drop their leaves in the autumn? This study presents an “autumnal timeline” using analyses of birch populations Sweden, Norway, and Belgium. This study measures leaf colour change and shedding along with cessation of wood growth.

This study highlights the effects of climate change-related events such as warmer/later autumns and doubts on the deciduous patterns of birch.
